It is important to us that all participants are familiar with the National Criminal Defense College Vision and Mission Statements:

VISION

We envision a world in which all individuals who come in contact with the legal system are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, regardless of wealth, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, or status in any marginalized group.

MISSION

  • Pursuing justice by delivering the highest standard of trial skills training, through a diverse faculty, to criminal defense attorneys across the United States to ensure that people accused of crimes are represented by client-centered, trial-focused, and zealous counsel.
  • Pursuing justice by preparing defense counsel to recognize and confront racism and bias in the criminal legal system.
  • Pursuing justice by inspiring and empowering a diverse community of criminal defense attorneys to transform the criminal legal system to ensure due process of law, effective assistance of counsel, freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures, and equal protection of law for all people.

By clicking below, I certify the following:

  • I certify that I have read the NCDC Vision and Mission Statement printed above.
  • Certification of Non-Prosecution: I certify that I am not engaged in the prosecution of any criminal cases. (NCDC programs are reserved for criminal defense practitioners only.)
  • Staying at the hotel is required: I understand that I am required to stay at the Graduate by Hilton Iowa City during the weekdays of the program. This requirement is part of our promise to deliver the experience of collaboration and bonding that the Trial Practice Institute is known for. If you would like to request a rare exception, please contact us.
  • Hotel costs are separate: I understand that I will need to book my own hotel stay and those costs will be paid directly to the hotel and not to NCDC. (Important – if you are the recipient of a scholarship that includes housing funds, then this is not required of you and NCDC staff will be in touch with you about your reservation.)
  • Evaluation Feedback: I understand that my feedback is important to NCDC and I agree to complete all of the evaluation surveys throughout the Institute.
  • Photo Release: I understand that group and other photographs will be taken during the program and I agree that NCDC can post the photographs on social media and for other purposes.
  • Cancellation Policy and Refunds: I understand that if I need to cancel, then I must follow the cancellation procedure in this section in order to be eligible for a refund. As soon as a registrant is aware that they must cancel their Trial Practice Institute registration, they are asked to please contact Brett Equals (brett@ncdc.net). Once notified, NCDC staff will immediately work to find a replacement from the waitlist. Once a replacement is secured, then a refund will be issued. (This policy is in place to ensure that we can help those who are on the waitlist to get accepted as soon as possible. Refunds are not guaranteed after May 31st 2026 but we will do our best to make an accommodation for anyone needing to cancel after this date.)
