Biography
Andy Casanave was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in October 1982. In 1994 he resigned as a State prosecutor and hung his shingle. He remained in private practice through the devastation of Hurricane Rita. In 2007 he was asked to join the local Public Defender’s office with the promise that the pay was enough to keep him from practicing in Divorce Court. Presently he is a Supervising Attorney principally representing clients facing life imprisonment without parole.
Andy has been married 35 years to Vicky Smith Casanave and they have one adult son, Stephen.

Biography
I’ve been a public defender in New Orleans since 2014 and feel fortunate to have the opportunity to represent people in my community who have been systemically oppressed by the criminal legal system, and to support my coworkers in doing the same.
